Customers get something back (1% I think) that they can have quarterly or annually to spend with the company that issues the card. The amount is so small that customer wouldn’t notice it if it was taken off the bill at the till at the time, but it’s more noticeable when allowed to accumulate
Organisation hopes to get customer loyalty by offering this ‘discount’ for customer’s loyalty

There are several different ways the card can be beneficial, depending on the outfit that is sponsoring it. The company or organization benefits by having a repeat customer. The customer can benefit in many different ways. I’ll use a few of my local grocery stores for example. Giant Eagle owns a local gas station chain called get-go. They give out fuel perks to customers of their grocery store and from the gas station. I use this card when I buy groceries and I get some money off of a gallon of gas. The more I spend, the more discount I get on gas. They also give you another $0.01 of per gallon when you buy coffee to go at the gas stations. Foodland, on the other hand, gives you a % discount on your total bill. The more you spend the higher that % gets. Obviously, you would chose whatever works better for you. If I drove a hybrid, I might be more inclined to use the Foodland. If I owned a landscaping business and always needed a lot of gas, I certainly would use the Fuel Perks. Hope this helps.

customers will keep wanting to come back b/c they feel like they are treated well…like when you go to eat somewhere and you have been there so many times the people know you and what you want…you keep going back.
organisations benefit b/c they keep their customers coming back and keep making money that way and get regulars.

They give the customer some very small reward
The give the organisation a steady source of customers.
I’d just LOVE to know how you are going to work out what the best answer is, and thank you, we already KNOW that the best answer gets 10 (or more!) points

Well, loyalty cards offer an incentive for the customer to buy more or only from that store, therefore the company benefits because they are attracting more customers due to the cards… therefore this increases demand and revenue for the company.
The incentives to the customer may be a point system (e.g. boots and tesco), where the more you buy, the more points you gain and these points can be turned into money off vouchers for future purchases.
For me, I would rather buy something from Boots as opposed to Superdrug because I get points at Boots. This therefore, creates a competitive advantage for Boots, or gives them a competitive edge over Superdrug.
